| This Quarter’s Preaching Calendar – We’ve Got You Covered
by Cory Mansfield
We have all been there in school before: a big exam tomorrow and you haven’t studied a lick. You decide to pull an all night cram session with little to no sleep, exorbitant amounts of coffee or soda, and last minute cries to God bargaining with Him to help you do well. Then, you take the test. If all goes well, you ace the test and rejoicing ensues! And then the trouble starts. You begin to think that this process will work on all occasions and you start to form a little habit of waiting until the last minute to prepare for an exam, because why not, right? It worked once; it can work again. But anyone with just a little life experience is quick to counsel the young student with words of wisdom to be faithful to the tasks they have in front of them. Don’t rely on last ditch efforts to get you by. Be faithful with the tasks God has for you.
Do you agree? Can you relate at all? The funny thing is that I bet most pastors can relate with this in regards to sermon preparation. We’ve all done it, haven’t we? We’ve waited until Saturday, or worse yet, Saturday night to start prepping our sermon. We’ve stayed up all night, consumed way too much caffeine, cried out to God, and then by God’s grace hit a home run on Sunday morning. And then we do it again, and again, and again, and again.
